Kristee sustained a spinal cord injury at just 18 years old after a fall from a ledge outside her college dorm room in 2004.
Following her injury Kristee began volunteering for a schools-based injury prevention program, travelling around Australia to deliver important safety messages to children in a bid to help raise awareness and prevent spinal cord injuries.
Kristee soon began working for Spinal Life Australia, Australia’s peak body for people with neurological disabilities, as a Project Officer in their Marketing and Fundraising department. Her role during this time focused on grant and sponsorship writing, campaign management and marketing the delivery of injury prevention programs.
In 2012, Kristee founded what is now Australia’s leading recovery facility, Making Strides, to ensure that herself and others could have access to the tools, facilities and support required for their recovery journey without having to leave the country.
Over the next seven years, Kristee dedicated her life to growing the organization to a staff of 15 and delivering services to over 200 clients this past year.
Kristee’s life and work experience helped her to realise the immense need to support the underfunded and under resourced disability sector. As a result of this Kristee became the driving force behind the organizations charitable foundation and fundraising success.
